American tennis player Ben Shelton took another step into the big time on Wednesday (22 January), by booking his place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Australian Open.
Shelton came through a men’s singles quarter-final with Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego, winning in four sets: 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4).
The 21st seed will face another Italian, world number one Jannik Sinner next. It’ll be Shelton’s second semi-final appearance in a Grand Slam event, after reaching the final four at the US Open in 2023.
Shelton’s win came just a few hours after fellow American Madison Keys came from a set down to beat Elina Svitolina and reach the women’s singles semis.
