WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Today is the second of three straight First Alert Weather Days due to extreme cold. In fact, today and tomorrow will be even colder than we were yesterday. Air temperatures will stay sub-zero once again, but wind chills are expected to be as low as -30° to -40° throughout the day today.
The coldest of these wind chills will occur up in the Northwoods. Most of north central Wisconsin will be under an Extreme Cold Warning until noon on Tuesday. Due to the extreme cold, there are several school closings; you can view a full list of them here.
Wind chills are expected to be about as low Tuesday morning (with potential to be slightly lower). Air temperatures will finally become positive again by Wednesday afternoon at the latest.
Snow chances are limited this week. A couple light snow showers cannot be ruled out on Wednesday, but any accumulations will stay under an inch. No serious impacts are expected at this time.
Temperatures will hover around or slightly below average through the second half of the week with more clouds than what we are starting out the week with.
