I’m Shocked Superman & Lois Killed Off The Last Character I Was Expecting In Its Final Episode Emergency USA

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 10.Superman & Lois season 4 presented major deaths along the way, and the DC series’ finale could not have been any different, though I did not see an emotional death coming. I am sad that one of the best live-action versions of Superman, perhaps only losing to Christopher Reeve’s, has come to an end. However, I’m happy with how the team behind Superman & Lois wrapped up things. The show’s finale was divided into two parts, with the first twenty minutes or so being dedicated to traditional superhero action, while the second part was more focused on the show’s characters.

Superman & Lois season 4’s cast suffered from budget cuts, which led to characters not appearing, dying early, or being used sparingly. Still, the series finale managed to bring everyone that was still alive back, teasing what future they have in this universe. The Superman & Lois series finale marks the end of an era, as there are now no more DC shows on The CW, with the Arrowverse truly over. I love how the show sent off its characters, though I have to say that I wasn’t prepared in the slightest for a very emotional death.

The DC Series’ Main Characters Die

While I thought that theories regarding Clark Kent getting a new heart could turn out to be true, I never really let go of the idea that Superman & Lois would end with his death. Turns out that did happen, with the Man of Steel living for 32 more years after defeating Lex Luthor, dying as General Lane’s heart gave out. However, what I did not expect to happen was that Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane would also die. More than that, Lois actually died before Clark, and her cause of death was nothing short of tragic.

Superman & Lois has come to an end, delivering an impactful and tear-jerking finale for some of the best versions of Superman and Lois Lane.

After the Kents are successful in defeating Lex Luthor, Superman & Lois ha a series of time jumps. Those include some major events for the family, such as the reveal of adult versions of Jonathan and Jordan, showing how Lois and Clark grow old together with an extended family by their side. Sadly, Lois’ cancer comes back. However, the character is not able to win her battle this time, with Lois eventually dying in her home surrounded by Clark and her two sons. Lois dying in the series finale, especially before Clark, was a shocking twist.

Lois Lane’s Superman & Lois Death Changes Her Arc In The Show Drastically

Elizabeth Tulloch’s Character Had Overcome Her Disease Once

Lois Lane dying of cancer in the Superman & Lois series finale was heartbreaking. I think her death in the finale would have been quite emotional no matter how it happened; however, by bringing back her cancer, the show made a crucial change to her arc. Superman & Lois season 3 delved into Lois discovering her cancer and dealing with her own mortality. The season was the darkest of the DC series, with the Kents banding together to support Lois as she battled for her life, going through some emotional milestones over the season.

Earlier in Superman & Lois season 4, Lois, Clark, and the boys celebrated that she was seemingly cured of her cancer. Lois and Clark got to live for several years together after the events of season 4’s main plot. They started a foundation to help people and lead a growing family. I think if the show had ended after those reveals, it could have been as poignant as the actual finale. However, the DC series did not stop there, and so Lois’ cancer coming back rewrote her arc, with her not beating the disease after all, tragically.

Superman & Lois’ Decision To Show Lois Lane’s Death Makes Sense Even If It Is Heartbreaking

The DC Series Planned An Emotional Reunion

Lois Lane’s death made sense to me, as it allowed the DC series to end on a poignant note, with a reunion between Clark and Lois in the afterlife. Since Superman is the show’s most important character, I understood the decision to have Clark outlive Lois, even though his death had been set up earlier in season 4, and Lois was seemingly cured of her cancer. If Elizabeth Tulloch’s character was to die before Tyler Hoechlin’s, then tying Lois’ death to her journey in the series was the perfect way to do it, and so her cancer returned.

That said, the choice making sense does not make Lois Lane’s death any less tragic. After spending an entire season battling her cancer, with Lois going through all the stages that come with that disease, such as accepting you might die at any time but fighting on anyway, it was brutal to see Lois eventually become ill again and die when her cancer came back. While I felt that the reunion between Lois and Clark in the afterlife was a heartwarming moment to end Superman & Lois, how Lois got there was still incredibly sad.

Superman & Lois, the seventh Arrowverse spinoff series, will take the titular characters from Metropolis to Smallville. The CW series is set in the aftermath of the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, which saw the multiverse collapse and the merging of worlds into what is now Earth Prime. Superman & Lois sees Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) dealing with all the pressures of their jobs, along with being parents to two teenage sons. Lois and Clark are no strangers to the Arrowverse, with Hoechlin’s Superman having been introduced all the way back in Supergirl season 2. Meanwhile, Tulloch’s Lois made her debut in the 2018 “Elseworlds” crossover. The duo is joined by a growing cast of characters that includes a new iteration of Lana Lang.
