Awards season is quickly coming to a close, but there are still plenty of trophies to be handed out, and tonight those are coming from the Screen Actors Guild.
Among the nominees this evening is Pamela Anderson, who received a nod for her turn as Shelley, an aging Las Vegas showgirl who has to reassess her life when her longtime act is abruptly canceled in The Last Showgirl.
While many of her fellow nominees walked the red carpet with artfully applied cosmetics, Anderson made a statement of her own, sporting her now-signature bare face. She has become known for eschewing the usual glam routine in recent years, following the death of her longtime makeup artist, Alexis Vogel. “She was the best. And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup,” Anderson explained to Elle in 2023.
Anderson’s performance has garnered plenty of awards season buzz, earning her a Golden Globe nomination earlier this year—tonight she’s nominated for best actress in a film. She will also reportedly serve as a presented during the ceremony.
Ahead of the awards, she penned a piece about SAG and the life of a working actor, sharing, “The character of Shelly in The Last Showgirl carries all these feelings, hopes and desires. She has found her calling, her meaning and her way to cope — and it’s being ripped out from under her. No one else understands that better than a performer, who gets the “life and death” element of being seen, heard and essentially loved.”
