Jimmies blow past Bruins in last regular season game Emergency USA


Jamestown, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men’s basketball team ran away with a win against the Bellevue University Bruins to go undefeated on the weekend. Anthony Walters led the Jimmies with 19 points, and Silas Bennion followed with 16. Rounding out double-figure scoring were Owen Hektner with 14 and Spencer Barr with 10. Jimmy Llinas led the Jimmie defense with six rebounds and four steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Will Cordes, Hektner, Walters, and Bennion each knocked down a three-pointer only nine minutes into play to secure a quick 11-point lead over the Bruins. Two more triples in two possessions from Hektner, one credited to a Bennion pass and another to a Barr steal, stretched their lead to 17. 
  • The Bruins struggled to cut their double-figure deficit against the fired-up Jimmie defense. They managed to get within 10 points with 1:37 to go, but a foul and turnover created four points for the Jimmies.
  • The Jimmies were 51.72% from the field and made six of 11 three-point attempts in the first half to put them up 39-25 over the Bruins. 
  • The Jimmie defense kept the Bruins from scoring until almost five minutes into the second half. Meanwhile, Bennion and Walters scored eight points together, expanding the Jimmies lead to 22 points. 
  • Barr joined the three-point frenzy and hit two back-to-back to create the Jimmies largest lead of 31 points with seven minutes and change to go. 
  • The deficit proved too much for the Bruins to come back from, and the last game of their regular season went to the Jimmies, 75-50
  • The Jimmies held the Bruins to 25 points in both the first and second halves. The Jimmies had 13 threes, led again by Hektner with four. As a team, the Jimmies collected 10 steals and recorded 13 assists, Cole Glasgow and Bennion each with four. 

UP NEXT

  • The Jimmies ended their regular season 16-10 overall and 11-4 in the conference. Details of post-season play are to be announced.
