EUGENE, Oregon – The Rutgers men’s basketball team was defeated 75-57 in Oregon on Sunday. Freshman Lathan Sommerville paced the squad with career-high in points (14), field goals made (six), blocks (three) and minutes (30).
The Ducks caught fire from three-point range and shot 13-22 from downtown. Point guard Jackson Shelstad led the way for the Ducks with 19 points. Shelstad shot eight-of-13 from the field. Center Nate Bittle added 15 points on his own and shot six-of-12 from the field.
Oregon had 11 offensive rebounds and caused 13 turnovers for the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers had an early lead in the game and a scoring spree for the Ducks sent them to halftime with a 38-33 lead. Oregon outscored the Scarlet Knights 37-to-24 in the second half to secure the one-sided win. The Ducks had 16 team assists compared to the Scarlet Knights five. Oregon had 15 fastbreak points.
Freshman center Lathan Sommerville led the way offensively for RU and scored 14 points. Freshmen guard Dylan Harper scored 12 points. Freshman forward Dylan Grant and guard Ace Bailey added eight points each. Freshman forward Bryce Dortch scored his first career points as a Scarlet Knight.
The Scarlet Knights have dropped three games in a row and moved to (12-14) overall and (5-10) in the Big Ten. On Wednesday night, the Scarlet Knights will head to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies at 10:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
