LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women’s tennis team celebrated St. Valentine’s Day with a dominant 6-1 win over Kansas City on Friday morning at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
In what was the second-ever meeting between the programs, the Rebels improved to 4-0 while the Roos fell to 2-4 on the young season.
Doubles play was over quickly as all three courts counted for the home team. Hanna Vinahradava and Nikol Mircheva blanked Joana Cardona and Sophie Marshman, 6-0, at the top spot; Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao improved to 12-2 on the season with a 6-2 victory over Catherine Chrobak and Amal Gati at No. 2; and Kaho Oyama and Sofiia Sokolvak downed Ashley Jacobson and Maria Bylina by the same score on court three.
In singles, five of six Rebels swept their opponents: Hu got by Cardona, 6-2, 7-5, at the top spot; Zhao downed Bylina, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3; Mircheva fought off Marshman, 6-0, 7-6, at No. 4; Oyama remained undefeated in duals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gati at No. 5; and Vinahradava eased by Jacobson, 6-4, 6-2, on court six.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Hanna Vinahradava helped pitch a shut out in doubles and then breezed by her opponent in straight sets on court six in singles play.
UP NEXT: UNLV will be right back on the courts Saturday when it hosts Utah Tech starting at 10 a.m. All matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex are free of charge.
