NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard on Sunday (Feb. 9) revealed he will perform with the Soul Rebels, Harry Connick Jr., the Original Pinettes and others as part of the Super Bowl LIX pregame festivities.
“The rumors are true,” Blanchard wrote in a social media post. “The NFL will honor my hometown of New Orleans by commemorating the unwavering resilience of the New Orleans community with the unmistakable jazz sounds of our city.”
Blanchard advised viewers to “tune in early, you don’t want to miss the opening with me and the SUNO marching band drum major. I am so excited.”
Southern University’s “Human Jukebox” marching band and the Spirit of New Orleans Gospel Choir also will participate in the performance, Blanchard wrote, along with trumpeter Leroy Jones and trombone player Freddie Lonzo.
Hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar will headline the game’s halftime performance.
The pregame show and Super Bowl LIX airs Sunday exclusively on Fox 8.
