UFC 310 Main Event: Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Asakura

Alexandre Pantoja (28-5) is on a six-fight winning streak heading into UFC 310. The 34-year-old Brazilian made his UFC debut in July 2017 with a split-decision win over Eric Shelton. Pantoja’s career had its ups and downs over the next three years, where he went 5-3, but he has not lost since he dropped a decision to Askar Askarov in July 2020.

Pantoja won the UFC flyweight title in July 2023 on the heels of two “Performance of the Night” submission wins. Pantoja secured the 125-pound title with a split decision win over Brandon Moreno. Since that victory, Pantoja has defended his title twice, beating Brandon Royval in December and Steve Erceg in May. Both fights ended in decision victories.

Kai Asakura (21-4) signed with the UFC in June. The 31-year-old is a two-time Rizin bantamweight champion. His first title run began with a knockout victory over Hiromasa Ougikubo following a TKO loss to current UFC competitor Manel Kape in December 2019. That reign ended in his first defense with a KO loss to Kyoji Horiguchi. Following that loss, Asakura went 4-1 before regaining the vacant 135-pound belt in December 2023 with a TKO over Juan Archuleta. Asakura has not fought since that victory.

UFC 310 Co-Main Event: Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Ian Machado Garry

The UFC initially booked Shavkat Rakhmonov (18-0) against UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad for this card. That fight fell through when Muhammad was forced from the event with a bone infection in his two. Rakhmonov enters UFC 310 is the No. 3 fighter in the official UFC welterweight rankings.

Rakhmonov joined the UFC in October 2020 after winning and defending the M-1 Global welterweight crown. The 30-year-old from Uzbekistan has rocketed up the UFC rankings thanks to a 100 percent finishing rate. In six UFC outings, Rakhmonov has five submissions and one knockout. Only one of his UFC outings has made it to the third round.

In his most recent fight, Rakhmonov submitted former two-time UFC title challenger Stephen Thompson. That fight took place in December 2023.

Rakhmonov has only gone past the second round once in his career and that came in March 2023 when he submitted Geoff Neal at 4:17 of the third stanza.

Garry (15-0) has an 8-0 record under the UFC banner. The 27-year-old has five decisions and three knockouts. In his most recent outing, Garry defeated Michael “Venom” Page at UFC 303.

Garry initially came across as a Conor McGregor clone, but the confident Irish fighter has found his own personality as a competitor who is more than willing to take on the toughest the competitors the UFC can book him against.

This fight is a massive step up in competition for Garry. A win over an opponent as talented as Rakhmonov will be a huge boost to Garry’s fortunes, as well as for his already overflowing confidence.

UFC 310: Ciryl Gane vs. Alexander Volkov 2

Ciryl Gane (12-2) is the No. 2 fighter in the official UFC heavyweight rankings. The 34-year-old French competitor has only lost in UFC title fights, falling to Francis Ngannou by decision in 2022 for the undisputed title, and losing to Jon Jones via submission in 2023 for the vacant belt. Gane did capture the interim heavyweight belt in 2021 with a knockout of Derrick Lewis. In his most recent trip to the Octagon, Gane defeated Serghei Spivac by TKO. That bout took place in September 2023.

Gane debuted with the UFC in 2019 following a Muay Thai career. He was 3-0 in MMA when he first fought inside the Octagon. Gane went 7-0 to begin his UFC career. His first loss came in a title unification bout against Ngannou.

Alexander Volkov (38-10) is ranked at No. 3 in the UFC’s heavyweight divison. The 36-year-old has been with the organization since 2016, but has never fought for UFC gold. Volkov is currently riding a four-fight winning streak with his most recent outing being a June 2024 decision win over interim title challenger Sergei Pavlovich.

Volkov has been with the UFC since 2016. He has had an up-and-down run with the promotion. His longest winning streak before his current four-fight unbeaten run came when he opened his UFC career at 3-0.

UFC 310 Results: Winners

Kennedy Nzechukwu: Kennedy Nzechukwu moved to 2-0 as a UFC heavyweight with his second knockout in three months. The 32-year-old looked relaxed and dialed in to open his matchup against Lukasz Brzeski. Despite carrying his hands alarmingly low, Nzechukwu did a nice job defensively, but his offense carried the day.

Nzechukwu mixed up his targets and techniques throughout the fight, utilizing combos to score against Brzeski. Despite his relaxed approach, Nzechukwu ended the bout with a powerful right hook that left Brzeski defenseless on the mat.

UFC 310 Results: Losers

Lukasz Brzeski: Lukasz Brzeski never looked settled in against Kennedy Nzechukwu. He threw single strikes, did not pressure much, and lacked aggression. He paid for that approach with a second straight first-round knockout loss.

Brzeski is now 1-5 in the UFC.
