The much-awaited Telugu movie Pushpa 2 The Rule is set to hit theatres in a few hours and the film has already crossed the $10 million-mark in global advance booking ticket sales. Featuring Allu Arjun in the lead role, the film is a sequel to Pushpa The Rise which stormed Indian box office in 2021 and became a huge surprise hit.
Pushpa 2: The Rule
Sukumar directed Pushpa 2 The Rule which features Arjun alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in lead roles. Jagapathi Babu, Rao Ramesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Dhananjaya also star in the movie set for a global theatrical release on December 5. Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings have produced the movie. Sukumar also directed the first film in the trilogy (Pushpa The Rise) and has previously worked on Arya and Rangasthalam.
Allu Arjun reprises his role of smuggler Pushpa and Mandanna is also back as his wife, Srivalli, in the new film. Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music and Polish Mirosław Kuba Brożek cinematographer has also worked on Pushpa The Rule.
Pushpa 2 The Rule: Screenings
Pushpa The Rule will release worldwide in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam languages apart from Telugu. Several paid preview screenings are scheduled a day before the release. Just hours before the preview screenings, producers Mythri Movie Makers announced that Pushpa The Rule has incorporated audio description and closed captions to ensure smoot viewing for hearing impaired and vision impaired audience. The step enlarges the target audience for the film.
Several theatres in the Indian state of Kerala have also announced “24-hour marathon screenings” for Pushpa 2 The Rule. The film is releasing across more than 12 thousand screens worldwide.
Pushpa 2 The Rule: Breaking records before release
In a press statement, the Indian ticket booking platform BookMyShow said that Pushpa The Rule is now the fastest film to have sold a million tickets on the platform before the release. The platform has already sold two million tickets for the film. COO – Cinemas, BookMyShow Ashish Saksena confirmed that the Sukumar film has surpassed Kalki 2898 AD, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and KGF: Chapter 2 in this regard. “Pushpa 2 The Rule is expected to make a notable impact at the box office and the strong pre-release buzz positions the sequel as a strong contender to set new records for opening-day and weekend collections this year.”
Pushpa 2 The Rule: Expectations
Pushpa 2 The Rule is expected to make a huge opening of nearly $20 million on Thursday, December 5. Given that the film crossed the $10 million-mark a day before the release, it may not be such a tough task to breach the mark of $20 million by the time the film completes its first day at the global ticket windows.
Box office competition for Pushpa 2 The Rule
The Bollywood film Chhava was shifted for a later date and avoided a clash with Pushpa 2 The Rule. It was initially slated to hit theatres on December 6, a day after Arjun’s movie. The Hindi film features Vicky Kaushal and will now hit theatres next year on February 14.
Going forward, Pushpa 2 The Rule has an open window for the next two weeks. There are no major Indian films releasing in theatres on December 6 and December 13. Anil Sharma’s Vanvaas and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Zero Se Restart but neither hold the charm and potential to make a dent in footfalls for the Telugu movie.
It will be only after Atlee’s new film featuring Varun Dhawan, Baby John, releases on December 25 that Pushpa The Rule will face major competition at the box office.
