WASHINGTON (TNND) — Several NFL players appeared to pay homage to President-elect Donald Trump by performing his signature dance Sunday.
Trump is known for dancing during his political rallies. His dances took centerstage at the 2024 Republican National Convention, which featured a compilation of then-candidate Trump dancing to “Y.M.C.A.”
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers appeared to celebrate with Trump’s dance after scoring a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday. He addressed the celebration during his postgame media availability.
“Asked Brock Bowers about his Trump TD celly,” USA Today reporter Safid Deen wrote via X. “[He replied] ’I’ve seen everyone do it. I watched the UFC fight last night and Jon Jones did it. I like watching UFC so I saw it, and thought it was cool.’”
“Raiders PR ended his postgame availability after my question,” Deen added.
Bowers’s media availability does not currently appear on the team’s website.
Detroit Lions defensive end Za’Darius Smith and Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley also invoked Trump on the gridiron. The Trump campaign shared clips of the dances via X, writing “TOTAL. MAGA. TAKEOVER.”
The celebrations follow San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa’s decision to crash a live NBC broadcast prior to the presidential election while wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. He addressed the scene in a postgame interview, saying his support for Trump came during a crucial time with under two weeks until Election Day.
“I’m not going to talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important time,” Bosa said.
The league later fined Bosa $11,255 because the personal message violated NFL uniform and equipment rules. Bosa later said he was aware the move would draw a fine, noting “it was well worth it.”
Trump’s election win appears to have gone against a long-held NFL superstition which claims the incumbent party will keep the White House if the Washington Commanders win at home before the election. Though the Commanders topped the Chicago Bears in a last-second Hail Mary thriller early this month, Democrats were unable to secure the White House for a second consecutive term.
